Liepaja area

The first hydrocarbon Exploration and Production licence was issued on May 8, 2006 for an area in the territory of the Liepaja structure. The licence area comprises 162.3 ha and is situated in the Dunalka Parish and the Durbe County, Liepaja District. The location of the area is shown on the general map..

The licence area is within the Liepaja Structure. Several wells were drilled there in 1960s, small-scale CDP seismic investigations were carried out there (in 1992-1993).

From the well Aistere (Durbe)-15, a small oil flow (0.1-0.15 m3/day) was obtained from the Top Ordovician (Saldus Formation) limestone and Lower Ordovician siltstone (Kriukai Formation).

From the well Durbe-36, there was a small oil flow from the Top Ordovician (Saldus Formation) limestone, oil shows were observed in the cores from the Lower Ordovician siltstone ( Kriukai Formation) and Middle Ordovician deposits (Taurupe and Dreimani Formations).

Well and seismic data as well as some maps are available to the oil industry for purchase and inspection:
